What are Golden Snitches?
We get this question all of the time. What exactly is a Golden Snitch? They are small, flying balls with wings that are used in the game of Quidditch as the ultimate prize. The objective of the game is to catch the snitch, which is worth 150 points and ends the game immediately.

Golden snitches are incredibly fast and difficult to catch, often flying at top speeds and changing direction in a split second. They are also equipped with various spells and enchantments to help them evade capture. Some of these enchantment spells include the ability to blend in with the surroundings, become invisible, or emit a blinding light.
It’s also worth noting that golden snitches are sentient creatures, meaning they have their own thoughts and feelings. They are not simply objects to be caught, but rather living beings that must be respected and treated with care. Catching a snitch requires not only skill and agility, but also a deep understanding and appreciation for the magic of the wizarding world.

Tips & Tricks
We do love the super simple crafts, especially with kids. We have a few tips and tricks to help make this Harry Potter recipe even better.

Card Stock for Wings
You can make the wings even stronger by using white card stock. Using regular typing paper is fine to create the wings. However, they can be super light and fall over or bend. If you are using these treats for a party, I would buy card stock from your local office supplier store or Amazon. Card stock is a little more expensive ranging from $15-25.
White Stickers
For family fun, we just replaces the Ferrero Rocher sticker on the top of the Golden Snitch. If you are hosting a Harry Potter Party, you may want to take it a step further and add a solid white sticker to the top. You could even add a letter to the white sticker for the honoree for the party. This is a fun extra touch!
Good Scissors
If you are like our family, it is always tough it find a good pair of scissors. I actually keep a hidden pair of scissors for cutting paper and material. Having a good pair of scissors makes any project a bit easier.
5 Mind-Blowing Facts About Golden Snitches
Have you ever wondered about the secrets behind Harry Potter’s beloved game of Quidditch? The Golden Snitch has always held a special place in the hearts of fans. Did you know that these small, flying balls have a fascinating history beyond their use in the game?
We want to share 10 mind-blowing facts about Harry Potter’s Golden Snitches that will leave you enchanted. From their creation in the 13th century to their symbolic meaning, get ready to discover everything you didn’t know about these magical objects.
The Golden Snitch Was Created in the 13th Century
One of the most intriguing facts about the Golden Snitch is its origin. The first-ever Golden Snitch was created in the 13th century by a wizard named Bowman Wright. He was a skilled metal charmer who made the first snitch out of wood and metal. The original snitch was much larger than the modern-day version, and it didn’t have wings. Back then, the snitch was known as the Golden Snidget, a small bird that was hunted to near extinction for use in wizarding sports.
Golden Snitches are Made from Real Gold
The evolution of the Golden Snitch from the Golden Snidget was not just about making Quidditch more challenging, but it was also a step towards conservation. It is thus fitting that the snitches are made from real gold. This is a metal that symbolizes wealth and prosperity in many cultures. The precious metal adds to the mystique of the Snitch, making it an object of desire for Quidditch players and fans alike.
Snitch’s Design was Inspired by a Real Insect
The intricate design of the Golden Snitch has been a popular topic of discussion among Harry Potter fans for years. But did you know that J.K. Rowling actually took inspiration from a real insect when creating the Snitch’s appearance?
The insect in question is the Golden Snitch Beetle, also known as the Jewel Beetle. This beautiful insect has a shiny, metallic exoskeleton that comes in shades of gold and bronze. Its wings are also transparent, making it appear as if it is hovering in mid-air.
A Golden Snitch Once Saved Harry Potter’s Life
In addition to being a beloved symbol and object in the world of Harry Potter, a Golden Snitch once proved to be a lifesaver for none other than the Boy Who Lived himself. In a high-stakes Quidditch match during his third year at Hogwarts, Harry swallowed the snitch to prevent it from falling into the hands of Dementors, who were on the hunt for him.

By doing so, he inadvertently opened the snitch, revealing the Resurrection Stone inside. With the Stone, he was able to summon his loved ones to help him fend off the Dementors and ultimately save his own life.
This moment is just one of many examples of how the Golden Snitch is not simply a tool for Quidditch, but a vital asset in the wizarding world.
Each Golden Snitch Has Its Own Unique Personality
Each Golden Snitch has its own unique personality, making them more than just a simple ball. These personalities are evident in the way each snitch interacts with its owner and responds to certain situations. Some snitches may be more mischievous and playful, while others may be more serious and calculating. The unique personalities of each snitch allow for a deeper connection between the owner and the object, creating a bond that goes beyond the sport of Quidditch.
Golden Snitches Can Be Used for More Than Just Quidditch
As we have learned, Golden Snitches are integral to the game of Quidditch, but their uses extend far beyond the sport. In fact, the wizarding world has found many creative and practical uses for these winged wonders.
For example, Golden Snitches have been used in medicine as a natural remedy for various ailments. The Snitch’s wings are said to have healing properties, and when ground into a powder, they can be used in potions to treat everything from headaches to the common cold.
Golden Snitches have also been used in security measures. In highly secure areas, Snitches have been enchanted to serve as alarms that detect and report unauthorized intruders. They can even be trained to attack intruders, providing an additional layer of protection.
And perhaps most fascinatingly, Golden Snitches have been used in the field of archaeology. Snitches are able to seek out and retrieve valuable artifacts that may be hidden or out of reach, making them invaluable tools for excavations.
For me, the Golden Snitch is a tasty chocolate treat while I write this article. LOL!
Creating your Golden Snitches can be a fun family activity. As J.K. Rowling once said, “We do not need magic to change the world, we carry all the power we need inside ourselves already: we have the power to imagine better.” So, let your imagination run wild and create a Golden Snitch that is truly your own. Happy crafting!
