Scooter or wheelchair? What should you rent when visiting Universal Orlando and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park?
Universal Orlando rents both wheelchairs and scooters (electronic convenience vehicles) to guests for use in the parks. Wheelchairs cost $12/day plus a $50 deposit. The scooters cost $50/day plus a $50 deposit. Many area scooter rental companies rent the scooters to guests for as little as $30 per day and then you can use it outside the park, too — including at Disney World and to get on the buses for transportation to Universal.
Just a cautionary note about the scooters at the Harry Potter park. To ride Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, you would have to park the scooter outside the castle and either transfer to a wheelchair or walk through the queue line. The lines are just too small to allow for the scooters. The same is true for Ollivanders Wand Shop and Three Broomsticks.
Additionally, most of the shops are just too small to accommodate a scooter. This makes a scooter inside the Wizarding World park to be almost worthless. You spend so much more money on a scooter and can’t use it in this popular park.
So, if you’re planning to spend a lot of time in Wizarding World of Harry Potter, you might want to stick with a wheelchair or plan to walk a fair amount in this section of the park.
