“Should I rent a car, reserve a shuttle, or take a taxi from my Disney resort to the new Harry Potter park at Universal?”
It’s one of the most common questions we get from guests. How do you get from your Disney resort to the new Wizarding World of Harry Potter or any part of the Universal Orlando Resort?
You essentially have three options.
- Grab a taxi. Depending on the size of your group and where you stay at Disney World, you will spend between $75 and $100, round-trip from the Disney resort to Universal.
- Rent a car. You may get lucky and get a good deal on a car, but generally a rental car will cost you about $50 per day.
- Shuttle. There are no shuttles that run from Disney to Universal on a regular basis, so you would have to call Mears and see if you can arrange one for your group. Obviously, this will be more expensive than either of the above options.
However, there is a fourth option and the best part, it’s free! Universal offers a free shuttle from your Disney resort to the Universal Orlando Resort, but you have to buy the right ticket.
You must buy tickets for Universal or Islands, anyway, so why not buy one that comes with a free shuttle to Wizarding World of Harry Potter park? The ticket that comes with the shuttle is the 1 Day/Two Park Pass with shuttle transfers. We are one of the only places that even sells this ticket (Universal doesn’t even sell it — they leave it up to travel agents like us). The shuttle is operated by Mears, so it’s the same shuttle you would reserve and pay for directly through Mears. You can order the tickets, here: http://www.destinationsinflorida.com/universal/1daypasses.html
You will have to pick up the tickets from Will Call at Universal Studios or Islands of Adventure and the email confirmation comes with your vouchers for the shuttle and the number to call to schedule pick-up.
Don’t fret about waiting at Will Call to pick up your tickets, either. Universal has approximately twenty electronic kiosks at the front of both parks. They look like ATM machines. All you need is your ticket confirmation page and number and enter it into the kiosk to get your tickets. I’ve never been to the parks and not seen at least one and usually several open and unused. They are very easy to use and should take you less than 5 minutes to get your tickets.
On occasion, you may have an issue with the kiosk and have to go to the Guest Services counter and have a slight wait. However, this is almost always due to an error in the confirmation number, so be sure to bring along the printout of your confirmation to ensure that you have the correct number.
