Officials at Universal have announced that the ride restrictions for the Forbidden Journey ride will be changing. This in response to many guests being too big to fit inside the current ride vehicles.
Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, housed within Hogwarts castle, is the flagship attraction of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal’s Islands of Adventure theme park.
Previously, some guests were turned away because the ride’s seat restraints wouldn’t close safely. Universal says the maximum size for the ride was 265 lbs. before the changes. I am 6’0″ and weighed 240 lbs. when I first rode the Forbidden Journey ride and had no issues. Universal claims that one of the Orlando Magic players (listed at 6’11” and 265 lbs.) rode the ride during the grand opening.
However, with growing concern about their guests, Universal has chosen to modify the ride vehicles to accommodate larger guests by increasing the size of the two outer seats.
Universal says not all ride vehicles have been changed to the new size, but indicates that more are on the way with the intent to change them all. Universal wants to include the most guests possible on every ride, especially this new and popular Harry Potter ride.
