As a Harry Potter fan, I always look for one treat when I visit Wizarding World of Harry Potter. One may think it is Butterbeer. I do love frozen Butterbeer! However, the one treat I always look for is the Pumpkin Pasty.
You can find this flaky pumpkin treat at Honeydukes at Hogsmeade or Sugarplum’s Sweet Shop at Diagon Alley. It is almost like a scavenger hunt at Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Sometimes they have them and sometimes they do not.
After one of my recent visits (where I could not get the Pumpkin Pasty) I thought I would find a recipe when I got home. I hopped on the internet and searched for Pumpkin Pasty recipe. The easier the better!
I found this Pumpkin Pasty recipe from Favorite Family Recipes with just six ingredients. As a teenager cooking, I always want to find the easiest recipe possible. This one used ready made pie crust. Win win!
Ingredients for Pumpkin Pasty Recipe
As I mentioned, it is only 6 ingredients. These are all easy to find ingredients from your local grocery store. You can also order them through Amazon. I love ordering food from Amazon and having it shipped to our home.
The ingredients you will need are:
- 2 pie crusts can be homemade or store bought
- 3/4 cup pumpkin puree
- 2 tsp pumpkin spice
- 3 ounces cream cheese softened
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup butter
Directions for Pumpkin Pasty Recipe
There are a lot of instructions, but do not let that sway you from making this recipe. All of the steps are pretty simple. Before you jump into the instructions, preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
Step #1: Roll out the 2 pie crusts. Cut out 12 circles about 4 inches in diameter using the top of a large cup, cookie cutter, or bowl. You will not be able to get all 12 circles at once. Cut out as many as you can, roll the remaining dough into a ball, and using a rolling pin, roll it out again to cut more circles. Using the rolling pin again, gently roll out each circle just a little more to create a slightly thinner crust than a regular pie crust.
Step #2: In a mixing bowl, combine the pumpkin puree, cream cheese, sugar, pumpkin pie spice, and egg.
Step #3: Evenly distribute the pumpkin filling between the 12 dough circles. Place the filling on one half of the circle. Gently fold the dough over the filling forming a pasty. Using a fork, press the edges of the dough together sealing the filling inside. Using a sharp knife, cut a few slits across the top of each pasty. Place each pasty on a baking sheet.
Step #4: Using a pastry brush, lightly coat each pasty with melted butter. Sprinkle the top of each pasty with sugar crystals, cinnamon sugar, or colored sugar sprinkles (optional). Bake for 25-30 minutes or until pasties are lightly browned.
This is my first batch of this recipe. They do not all look pretty, but they are delicious. The crust is super flaky. I actually think this at home recipe tastes better than the Pumpkin Pastes at Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
