The Beauxbaton Girls and Durmstrang Boys perform a Triwizard Tournament Spirit Rally at various times throughout the day at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. It’s quite a performance and a favorite among fans, occurring just outside the Hogwart’s Castle in the same area that you can also see the Frog Choir perform.
Although you only see Beauxbaton girls in the movie and this performance, the Beauxbaton Academy of Magic is co-ed, according to the Harry Potter books. You first see the Beauxbaton school mentioned in the Goblet of Fire for the Triwizard Tournament. The Beauxbaton school is known for it’s very strict system of protocol concerning their behavior towards their professors, which is noticeably different from that at Hogwarts (e.g., standing when their headmistress enters the room). In these regards, Beauxbatons resembles customs at a typical French school. The name Beaux bâtons literally means “beautiful sticks” in French, and could be translated as “fair wands” or possibly “beautiful wands.”
As with the Beauxbaton girls, the Durmstrang boys also come from a co-ed school, in spite of depictions of only boys in the movies and this performance. Also mentioned first in the Goblet of Fire, the Durmstrang Institute for Magical Learning actually teaches the Dark Arts, not just the defense of them, as at Hogwart’s. Durmstrang students wear heavy furs with blood-red robes, although in the Harry Potter park, their robes are beige. The name “Durmstrang” is likely to be an allusion to the German phrase Sturm und Drang meaning storm and stress.
Here’s a video of the performance at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park.
