WARNING: Entering The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium & Savory Feast Kitchen will incite immediate drooling and cause your taste buds to explode in joy. Check out my review below (just try not to get too hungry).
When Universal Orlando Resort first announced plans for The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium, a steampunk-inspired restaurant, I was ecstatic. As a self-proclaimed chocolate addict, my hopes were high. After dining here, I can confidently report that Universal Citywalk’s newest restaurant did not disappoint!
To begin, the restaurant itself is gorgeous! The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium is a 2-story building, and includes a café area when you first enter, a bar upstairs, two dining rooms (on both the first and second floors), and a gift shop on the main level. The café offers a quick-service option for milkshakes or desserts, whereas the dining rooms offer full meals and a sit-down experience.
In the waiting area, you’re given the option of a beeper or a text message to let you know when your table is ready. We chose the text communication, and didn’t have to worry about carrying a beeper with us. This was a convenient process!
The architecture and furniture design is extremely detailed and goes along with the dark steampunk atmosphere. If you’re not familiar with steampunk, it is a genre of science fiction. The trend is characterized by industrial steam-powered machinery with a twist from the Victorian-era. This makes for an interesting ambiance at The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium!
The Team Members were attentive and considerate from the moment we walked through the doors. Not to mention, their uniforms were whimsical and fit the steampunk theme perfectly. Our waitress helped us navigate the sizable menu and provided great recommendations.
In addition to the wonderful staff, there were two extra-special workers whom I was excited to see: Professor Doctor Penelope Tibeaux-Tinker Toothsome and her sidekick robot, Jacques. The character interactions with Dr. Penelope Toothsome and Jacques were so much fun! Universal did an awesome job with character development, and in the menu, the story of Penelope Toothsome is shared and explains why the fictional character was driven to open her own chocolate emporium. Character dining adds an entertaining element to the guest experience, and I thought meeting the duo was icing on the (chocolate) cake.
The dessert artisans can be seen hard at work throughout the restaurant, as they prepare and create their delectable masterpieces. I have a newfound appreciation for their decadent artistry, as I witnessed the detail and precision that goes into every single dessert served. My sincerest thank you goes to the staff for the sweetest meal ever!
Now, let’s get to the most important part: the food and dessert. Yes, everything was just as delicious as it looks! We started off dinner with the Chocolate Almond Bread from the appetizer menu (or what Toothsome affectionately refers to as “Temptations”).
The bread was warm and sweet, and it was served with salted caramel butter. I also indulged in the Four-Cheese Flatbread, which was cooked to perfection. The bread was crispy, cracker-thin and the four cheeses (fontina, mozzarella, parmesan, and ricotta) were a yummy combination.
The portions were perfect, and I was stuffed by the end. As for the menu, brunch is offered all day and includes waffles, French toast, quiche, crepes, and more. If you’re looking for something beyond breakfast, the entrée options feature pasta, steak, seafood, and gourmet burgers. Included in the menu is also an extensive wine and alcohol list. (I’m not quite 21, so us teenagers will have to pass this, but your parents or older siblings may enjoy!).
The highlight at The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium was definitely the milkshakes, as they offer 13 different kinds. From Heavenly Hazelnut to Cinnamon Fantasy, there is a milkshake for everyone. The brain freeze is worth it.
There are also countless sundae options, including S’mores, Banana Cream Pie, and Salted Caramel Flan. Are you hungry yet?
If you’re not a fan of ice cream, you can always try one of the cakes, puddings, pies, or mousse. I had a bite of the Chocolate Crème Brule and the Triple Chocolate Cream Pie, and my taste buds were a fan of both.
Before you leave, don’t forget to stop in the gift shop and pick up a treat to go. There’s a wide range of macaroons, cupcakes, cotton candy, truffles, and whatever else your sweet tooth desires. Most importantly, the selection of chocolate was extremely vast and certainly lives up to its name as a “chocolate emporium”.
I highly recommend you dine here during your next visit to Orlando. One condition: bring me back a Salted Dulce De Leche Milkshake!
