Ollivanders Wand Shop

by on September 15, 2010

We had a lot of questions from readers about the Ollivanders Wand Shop show at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.  Many of you have been to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, but did not wait in the line to see Ollivanders show.  I can sympathize -- the line's usually longer than for the Harry Potter ride!

However, it's one of the best parts of the new Wizarding World of Harry Potter and for those of you that missed it, here's our video of the show.

As you can see from the video, the Ollivander wand show is only a few minutes long and then you're led into Owl Post to purchase your Harry Potters wand.  Quick tip: You do not have to wait in the line for the show just to buy a wand!  I was shocked to hear many people asking in the park, "What's that line for?"

"Oh, it's to buy Harry Potters wand."

" Are you kidding me??!!"

...guests proceeding to walk off, not willing to wait in the line to buy a wand.  Well, I wouldn't either!  You can go into the Owl Post through Dervish & Banges or you can now get a wand from the wand kiosk located outside Filch's Emporium and the Harry Potter ride.

Ollivander's Wand Shop show is worth the wait, in my humble opinion.  Even the video doesn't do it justice.  Universal did a great job with the theming in this little shop and it's worth it to see it in person.  Save it for later in the day when the lines have died down, considerably.

Have you seen the show during your Orlando vacation?  What did you think?

Is it always a little kid who gets to do the show. I would love to be chosen to do this, but im in college

    Not always, but usually.

I recently went on a band trip to universal. Next time I go I will make sure to catch the show!

Hi there;  I was there recently and thank God it was early and the line wasn’t too long.  I just looked at the Utube video and have to say that my experience wasn’t anything as fancy as the video.   My travel partner and I were herded into the far corner not anywhere in view of the person choosing a volunteer to receive a wand, after I realized that, I was very dissapointed.  Maybe it would be more fair if we had a number drawn from a crystal ball instead of picking the cutest young gal right in front of the desk.????    The demo of the wand choosing did not include the effects that were in Utube, no shelf shifting or bell ringing??. Still I was glad that I had gotten a chance to get inside without an hour wait for a 10 minute show.  It was indeed something that put you in the feeling of being involved with the theme and so unique
I would like to see it again.
As this page above stated, there is only dumb luck letting you know what the line is for.  There was no one stating why there was a line and yes, most that did hear it’s use believed it was the only place to get the wand and walked away.  That part needs to be revamped as the stores are not big enough to handle the hottest item the line is for. Loved it all but the Owl and Wand shop could be as large as the 3 Broomsticks eatery and still have  a line  A suggestion would be to turn the line the opposite way with summer coming and 90temps, as I looked at the structure,    I noticed that there is a pavillion with benches on the otherside of the gift shop that would be a humane way to wait in line and not get sunstroke since it isn’t used for anything  and could lead to the gift shop’s back door just as easy.
I may be a senior but it is just common sense.  Ease the pain of the line with the mostly unused pavillion as a place to get out of the sun while you wait, a no brainer and a win win solution.
Loved the Pumpkin Juice and Butter Beer.   CD Hudson,Fl

I just went today and was actually chosen to be the lucky person for wand choosing…and I’m 29! So just because you’re out of college doesn’t mean it can’t be your magical day. It was awesome. They did all the things in the video and I was very impressed. But maybe it was jus t because I was the one chosen! Loved it and can’t wait to go back!

How in the name of Dumbledore could anyone go all the way to HP Universal and NOT go into Ollivanders?  It was so-o-o wonderfully done, I wouldn’t have missed it for the world!  I will say that the magic depends on the child who is chosen – on one of my trips they picked a little boy who was WONDERFUL, he obviously was a big HP fan and he believed every moment as it happened to him.  The second time they picked a little girl who just didn’t have the right spirit, and it DID make a difference.

I want to go there. Like, I used to live in Florida, but the Wizarding World of Harry Potter wasn’t open at that time I lived there.. That year I moved, it opened =.= … I want to go to Ollivanders!

I just returned from Florida and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.  I, like others, had no idea what I was in store for when I got into the Ollivander’s line…however, I surmised that it must be good or there wouldn’t have been a line to begin with.  I actually left the HP park and explored other areas at Universal Islands of Adventure and then returned later hoping to get in for a peek. I am thrilled that I did get to experience the wand-chosing show as it was one of my favorite parts of the park. I hope they will add other interactive experiences similar to Ollivander’s. If you are thinking of making the trip I highly recommend it…no matter your age or interest in Harry Potter!

We are just home from our family holiday in Orlando, we visited Ollivanders and my daughter was selected!  Made a great day out even better!  Worth the wait.

When I went to Florida in July last year I got to visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. My friends thought I was crazy, after all qho waits 2 hours just to enter in a store and buy  a wand. But when  I told them about what I experienced they were jealous, since I was the one who got to have her wand “choose” her, I was so dumbstruck I couldn’t utter a word to save my life, I can’t even remeber what Ollivander said to me about my wand, but I distinctly remeber he was waiting on the rop of the stairs and toldme he “had been waiting for me” it was even more like it was in the movie. Ollivander was also older looking. That’s something I’ll always remember with awe.

I was chosen as well when I went to Ollivander’s.  I’m 31 so I don’t think age makes a difference.  I was in awe when I walked in.  I know I had a huge smile on my face and was very excited.  I think Ollivander chose me because of this.  It makes for a better show to have a participant who is excited.

Bells went off, papers flew and a light shown down on me with wind when my wand chose me.  My wand is a 12″ holly with a phoenix core.  And yes, Ollivander had been waiting for me.

The little kids who are picked, can they tell what’s going on most of the time, I know my little  siblings wouldn’t have a clue.
